Kamba gospel artist Stephen Kasolo faced criticism from some of his fans following a social media post in which he reflected on the irreplaceable bond between a child and their biological mother.
Kasolo has for a long time introduced several women to his fans acknowledging their support and referring to them as Mum including his spiritual parents Tabitha and Shem.
While Kasolo’s message was intended to honor his late mother, some fans have interpreted his remarks as dismissive of some women who have supported him.
In his post, Kasolo wrote, “Ukiwa Duniani Juanga Mzazi wako ni yule biological peke yake!!! Think about that and thank me later,” stressing that no one can replace the love of a biological mother. He added, “Akiangaa ona ngowawa ngekalaa nisi my biological mum was the only mum I had and who cared… I’m sure mum kama angekuwa hai angakuja graduation yangu pale Multimedia kama vile niliona Wazazi wakisherehekea watoto wao, but hiyo siku nilikaa mahali nikasema God am sure you are celebrating with me.”
While many fans resonated with Kasolo’s message, a section of his followers expressed disappointment, feeling that his words overlooked the contributions of other maternal figures in his life.
Mbete wa Muiya Felix said, “So those ladies you’ve been telling us they are your mums and helped you to buy your car and education and you call them mum, now they are useless?”
Another fan, Mo Nthoki, echoed this sentiment, pointing out that Kasolo’s comments could be seen as disrespectful to those who have supported him: “Very true… but when you said wengine ni kujifanya tu, you mocked everyone who stood up for you as your mum… hapo kuna story fiche after all these rumors going on.”
MJM Mitoto also weighed in, reminding Kasolo of the importance of acknowledging the role of other maternal figures: “Sure, but in our hearts, there must be gratitude for those women who played the role of our mothers after God called our mums to eternal rest.”
Although it’s not clear whether Kasolo is beefing with any of his spiritual Mums it’s important to note that some of them seemed to have been missing during his recent album launch.
