Women groups in Kangundo Sub-county have begun receiving empowerment funds pledged during Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s recent visit to the area.
According to John Kituku, personal assistant to Kangundo MP Fabian Muli, the funds are being disbursed to officially registered women groups, with at least 150 groups targeted in the ongoing exercise. Each group is receiving KSh 50,000.
“We have already begun the distribution process, and the exercise will continue for the next one month. We urge the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely to uplift their livelihoods,” said Kituku.
He noted that most of the women groups are engaged in table banking and small-scale income-generating activities, and the funds will help them expand and strengthen their projects.
“We’ve interacted with several groups who shared that they already have projects running. This money will be a significant boost to their initiatives,” he added.
However, the initiative has not been without criticism. A section of leaders has raised concerns about the credibility of the disbursement process, alleging that the same funds are being rotated across multiple constituencies.
