Former Machakos County Health CEC Dr. Daniel Yumbya has appealed to Kenyan youth to maintain law and order during the upcoming Sabasaba demonstrations set for Monday.
Speaking in Kyevaluki, Kangundo sub-county, Yumbya acknowledged the right to protest but urged demonstrators to act responsibly and avoid destruction.
“It’s okay to demonstrate, but do it peacefully. Don’t destroy property. Many traders have taken loans to sustain their businesses. Let’s be responsible and respect everyone’s space,” said Yumbya.
He raised concerns over criminal elements infiltrating protests, warning that such individuals should be identified and dealt with firmly.
Yumbya also called on the government to actively engage with Gen Z, saying their frustrations must not be ignored.
“The government cannot live in a utopia and ignore the awakening of Gen Z. It’s time for dialogue and a national conversation,” he stated.
He concluded by urging the youth to register as voters ahead of the next general election.
“Don’t fight a directionless war. Organize, support leaders on the ground, and be strategic,” he advised.
