Fire breaks out at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital

Operations at Kangundo Level 4 hospital were Saturday afternoon disrupted for a while after a raging fire gutted down the isolation center for COVID-19 patients.

The fire began to spread faster due to the strong wind causing expectant women and children in nearby buildings to be evacuated.

According to eyewitnesses the fire broke out as engineers were working at the isolation center doing maintenance since it has not been in use for some time.

“I’m in charge of security at the hospital and at around 1 pm engineers working at the Isolation center were going on with their work before the fire broke out. Immediately one of them alerted me about the fire and we gathered all the fire extinguishers at the hospital and started putting out the fire,” said Emmanuel Musyoka.

“Machakos rescue team was contacted by the hospital management and rushed to help in putting out the fire successfully, we can attest no one was injured during the incident,” he added.

He confirmed that the beds, mattresses, and ceiling in the center were burned in the fire.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
