Ex-Machakos Senatorial Aspirant Mutua Katuku speaks after Auction of Property

Former Machakos County Senatorial aspirant and People’s Trust Party leader John Mutua Katuku has protested the auction of his belongings worth millions of shillings, claiming the process was conducted illegally.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Katuku said the auction stemmed from a 2016 incident in which his vehicle was involved in an accident. He explained that the matter was still pending in court after the insurance company involved went into receivership.

“I want to comment on something that happened yesterday, where auctioneers came and sold some of my things due to a case that is still in court over a car accident in 2016,” Katuku said.

He alleged that the auctioneers ignored a court order and accused the police of siding with them. “The company I had insured my vehicle with was paying out claims before it went into receivership. Those of us affected went to court so that the claims could be settled. The police disregarded the court order and followed the auctioneer’s wishes. I will sue them for going against the rule of law,” he vowed.

However, Mwala Subcounty Police Commander Frederick Setur dismissed the allegations, saying police officers only provided security during the operation.

“We got a letter from Ruol Auctioneers and, as police, we offered our security services as the auctioneers took properties from Mr. Katuku in connection with a court case involving his car. We followed the letter they showed us and provided security,” Setur stated.
