Chap Chap and Muungano threaten Wiper dominance in Lower Eastern County Assemblies

Maendeleo Chap Chap party, NARC and Muungano Parties are threatening to end the dominance enjoyed by the wiper party over the last 10 years in the county Assemblies of Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos.

In Machakos county Assembly, Wiper has 16 MCAs. Maendeleo Chap Chap follows closely with 12 MCAs while UDA has 4. PTP has 2, CCU 1, PICK 1, GDDP 1, and 3 Independent. The numbers mean that wiper has to get into a coalition with the other small parties to maintain the majority.

For instance, during the Speaker election, Kenya Kwanza has 12 MCAs in Chap Chap, 4 in UDA, and 1 in GDDP totaling 17. If they lobby the independents then they may carry the day. In the last Assembly, Chap Chap had 7 MCAs while Wiper had 19.

In Makueni, Wiper Party has the majority of members in the assembly with 14 elected MCAs, Muungano Party follows with 8, 5 Independent MCAs, 2 of Maendeleo Chap Chap, and 1 of UDA Party. In the last Assembly Wiper had 20 MCAs and Muungano 3.

In Kitui, Wiper has 14 MCAs, NARC 7, while 9 are independent, UDA Party 3, Jubilee 2, Muungano 1, CCU 1, CPK 1, and GTAP 1. In the previous assembly, Wiper had a clear majority of 21 while NARC had 6.
