Kitui County Assembly Speaker, Kevin Kinengo Katisya okayed the Majority (Wiper) Party Leadership changes.
In a communication issued by Speaker Kinengo on Tuesday 26th March 2024, he approved Munyoki Mwinzi the MCA for Kyuso Ward as the Majority Leader and Kimanzi Ngoima, the MCA for Township Ward as the Majority Whip.
This comes six months after a section of Wiper MCAs at Kitui County Assembly voted to remove the party’s majority leader and majority whip amid accusations of insubordination and disrespect to the party.
In the changes made by the MCAs during a special meeting in September 2023, Migwani MCA Harrison Maluki was ousted as majority leader, and his place was taken by Kyuso ward MCA Munyoki Mwinzi. Similarly, Kanyangi MCA Boniface Katula was removed as majority whip and the Wiper members elected Kitui Township MCA Daniel Ngoima to take up his position.
However, the duo moved to Kitui High Court in January 2024 to challenge the decision made by the Political Parties Tribunal confirming the changes made by the Majority Party.
On 6th March 2024, Justice Limo of Kitui High Court ruled that MCA Munyoki Mwinzi and MCA Kimanzi Ngoima should assume the position of Majority Leader and Majority Whip respectively as they were legally elected to office.
