In a devastating incident, a woman aged 65 lost her life after being hit by a Matco matatu on the Kibwezi-Kitui road in Kwamulili, Ituki. The incident occurred in Muleli village, sparking concerns over the safety of the road in the area.
The news was confirmed by Mulukalu, the Assistant Chief of Masimbini sublocation in the Kisasi Location. Expressing his condolences, he urged residents to exercise caution while using the road, particularly emphasizing the dangers posed by overspeeding vehicles in the accident-prone zone.
According to Mulukalu, the victim was fatally hit by a matatu belonging to Matco Sacco, en route from Kitui to Mutomo. The incident unfolded in the late hours, and the elderly woman tragically lost her life on the spot.
Upon investigation, the matatu driver reported to authorities that he observed the woman on the road. The driver claimed the victim appeared to be intoxicated, which he believed might have contributed to the tragic accident.
The Mutomo police promptly responded to the scene and transported the deceased woman’s body to the Mutomo mortuary. The community is now grappling with the aftermath of the incident, and local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to road safety measures.
