48 students from St. Augustine Kanyangi and St. Bridgit involved in an accident in Kitui

25 students from St. Augustine Boys Kanyangi and 23 from St. Bridgit Girls’ Syomunyu from Kitui Rural constituency were Saturday morning involved in an accident at Majengo in Kitui town.

The students were traveling to St. Ursula Girls secondary in Tungutu, Kyangwithya West on a 52-seater St. Augustine Kanyangi boys’ bus when their bus rolled several times in the Majengo area.

According to Mark Ndete who is Majengo Village Administrator, the bus was avoiding hitting a motorbike before losing control and rolling.

” There was a motorbike that was speeding fast, when the driver tried to avoid hitting it he instead lost control and swayed from the road before rolling. It was carrying boys and girls of different schools and the bus is still here waiting for the police to come to the scene,” Mark Ndete told Mauvoo News.

The bus was reportedly taking the students for a StudenC council meeting for catholic sponsored schools in St. Ursula girls, Tungutu. The injured students were first taken to Kitui County Referral hospital for treatment by a private vehicle before another bus came to carry the remaining students.

In January 2023, on the school opening day,  St. Bridgit Syomunyu Girls’ school bus was involved in an accident while ferrying students to school and this might be the reason why they had to use the same school bus with St. Augustine Kanyangi Boys.
