President William Ruto has fired a political shot at Wiper Front Patriotic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the second day of his development tour of the Ukambani region.
Speaking in Kitui County on Thursday, the Head of State announced plans to construct the long-neglected Tseikuru Road — the route leading to Kalonzo’s rural home -in a move many political observers have interpreted as a direct challenge to the veteran opposition figure.
While addressing the gathering, Ruto said that his government has already allocated one billion shillings for the construction of the road from Kamuwongo to Kandwia. He noted that he had been informed that the road leading to Tseikuru was still dusty and questioned whether people actually lived there.
The President added that since Kenyan citizens reside in Tseikuru, he would seek funds to construct the 30-kilometre stretch leading to the area.
“We have already allocated one billion shillings to construct your road from here in Kamuwongo to Kandwia. I’ve also heard that the road leading to Tseikuru is still dusty — is that true or not? Are there people living in Tseikuru? Since there are Kenyan citizens living there, let me go and find the money to build that 30-kilometre road all the way to Tseikuru,” Ruto said.
The President also urged Kenyans to ignore leaders who promote politics of poverty and hatred, saying that his critics lack vision and only spread hatred and tribalism.
Ruto, who was accompanied by his deputy President Kithure Kindiki, said opposition leaders expected to challenge him in the 2027 elections are unprepared and have no clear agenda or policies for Kenyans.
“You know, Kenya has been held back for many years because of leaders who lack vision, have no plan, no policies, and no direction to take the country forward. Kenya cannot be transformed through politics of tribalism or hatred,” the president said.
The President’s Ukambani development tour is set to continue tomorrow, 14th November, in Machakos County, where he is expected to launch the Kangundo–Mwala Road in Kangundo and the Kivandini–Miseleni Road in Mwala. He will also commission the Machakos Affordable Housing Project in Machakos Town.
