Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has lashed out at residents of Kibwezi West for electing MP Mwengi Mutuse in the 2022 general elections, accusing them of making poor political choices that have had dire consequences.
Speaking during the burial of Garshon Mutisya, a businessman from Emali who was shot dead by police during the June 25th protests in Nguu Masumba, Mutula urged locals to vote out Mutuse in the 2027 polls.
“The first thing you people of Kibwezi West can do — you who keep failing us — is to send these people home in the next elections, starting with this one (Mutuse). Say ‘Wantam!’” Mutula charged.

The Governor decried what he termed as a trend of Kibwezi West residents voting on the opposing side, allegedly influenced by small financial handouts, even as they bore the brunt of state violence.
“Every time we vote on one side, you’re on the other, for a small amount of money. All the people who have died during the Azimio protests are from Kibwezi West. Don’t you pity yourselves?” Mutula posed.
He further noted that many of those arrested and still in remand were also from the constituency, calling for greater political consciousness among the electorate.
“These things are painful… burying people draped in flags. And yet when you’re asked, ‘Are you with us?’ you hesitate. Let’s be serious,” he said.
A host of leaders and local politicians, including former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Senator Daniel Maanzo, Prof. Philip Kaloki, James Mbaluka, Malile, and several activist,s attended the funeral.
