Mwengi Mutuse: The MP Steering Kenya’s Political Storm unmasked

Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse has captured the nation’s attention by tabling a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, sparking heated debates in and out of Parliament. 

However, beyond the headlines, Mutuse’s career and background reveal a man deeply rooted in public service, law, and governance.

Mutuse currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Kibwezi West Constituency Makueni County, a role he has held since 2022 after being elected under the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party. 

Before his election to Parliament, Mutuse was pivotal in shaping County Governance as the Chief of Staff in the County Government of Machakos from 2013 to 2022. 

Mutuse’s public service career stretches back even further. From 2007 to 2008, he served as Regional Coordinator for Maendeleo Resource Trust, contributing to regional development initiatives. 

Prior to that, from 2004 to 2007, he worked as a Communication Officer in the Office of the Government Spokesperson at the Cabinet Office, playing a vital role in the Kibaki government’s communication strategies.

The lawmaker is a well-educated professional with a solid legal foundation. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Nairobi, completed in 2016, building upon his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the same university, where he graduated with 2nd Class Honours, Upper Division, in 2014.

He furthered his legal education by passing the Kenya School of Law Bar Examination, earning a professional diploma in law from the Council of Legal Education between 2016 and 2018.

His academic journey began at Kanyangu Primary School, where he earned his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1993, followed by his secondary education at Makueni Boys High School, completing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1997.

 Mutuse is a lawyer by profession and an active member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). 

His legal and public service contributions have been recognized at the national level with the prestigious Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) award, highlighting his commitment to service and excellence in leadership.
