Yatta: Locals Demand Urgent Action over Impassable Link Road

Residents of Yatta Sub-County in Machakos who use the Matuu- Katangi road have raised the alarm over the deplorable condition of the vital Matuu-Ikombe-Katangi road.

The road, which links several towns, has deteriorated to the point of being nearly impassable, especially after Makivenzi, where a gaping pothole threatens the safety of everyone using the route.

Locals describe the road as a ‘death trap’ With the rains approaching, they fear the situation will get worse.

“If a motorbike or even a cat hits that hole, disaster follows,” said one frustrated resident.

Boda boda riders are among the most affected.

“While carrying a sick person on this road, they may end up in worse condition by the time they reach the hospital,” lamented one rider. “We must divert through people’s farms to avoid the worst parts. This can’t go on.”

The community is calling on their MP, Robert Basil, to prioritize repairing the road before the rains start, using the Constituency Development Funds meant for road repair.

“If this road isn’t fixed soon, the rains will turn it into a river, and we’ll be completely cut off yet the road is a lifeline for business, transport, and emergency services.,” another resident warned.
