A Machakos County CECM is on the spot after allegedly admitting to taking bribes from Matatu operators in a leaked phone recording.
The furious Minister in the leaked call also uttered unprintable insults claiming that the Matatu operators in the county wanted to mess with her job which she fought so hard to get.
The CECM could be heard calling the person on the other side of the call ‘Prestige’ one of the Matatu Saccos operating in the region.
“Go and get a bus park slot from the next office, ‘prestige’ you are being misused…You guys are saying I’ve taken your Money and that of Makos Sacco, I will cancel your bus park permits. I’ve looked for this CECM post for so long.” The CECM in the recording is heard saying.
“You gave me money when it was just the two of us, If you want your money back, come I will refund you. Listen ‘Prestige’, you gave me money to assist you not to shame me or get me sacked. Makos Sacco brought me money and I refused because I had taken yours. He brought 300,000 and I refused because of you. ” She confessed.
“Kyalo does not have a vehicle but since he has decided to finger me, I will finger him first. I cannot give bus park slot under cohesion, now I understand the job, it is you who will suffer.” The CECM added.
Last week, Matatu operators from Machakos held demos protesting disrespect and arrogance by a CECM who they also accused of taking bribes, and non-compliance with designated routes and parking.
All eyes are now on her appointing Authority Governor Wavinya Ndeti, the County Assembly of Machakos, and the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission.
