Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has condemned the recent killing of Rex Kanyike who was shot by the police during the Anti Finance Bill Protests on Thursday.
Speaking in Yatta during the burial of Justice Monica Kivuti, Wavinya expressed her frustration with the way the police were handling young protesters.
“The killing of our youth so senselessly is unacceptable,” Governor Ndeti said.
Wavinya noted that Rex Kanyike, whose mother is from Machakos and father is from Gem, was just running when he was shot from the back.
“Are you supposed to shoot someone who’s running away from you?” furious Wavinya questioned.
The Governor emphasized the importance of valuing young lives and called for an end to such violence.
“Please, let us not joke around with these young people. We carry them for nine months and take care of them until they grow up. To lose them so senselessly is intolerable,” she added.
Ndeti further warned that as Mothers they will not stand by idly and allow these killings to continue happening.
“As a mother and a governor, I can tell you, you’re touching a raw nerve. We will not allow it,” Governor Wavinya warned.
