Deputy President William Ruto toured Makueni county Saturday (22nd January). Ruto began the day at AIC Kathonzweni where he was commissioning the church bus in which he earlier participated in the fundraiser to purchase it.

It was however not all rosy. The Deputy President was met with a shock after finding most locals had not yet arrived for the event.

The DP instead was ushered into the deacon’s office as local UDA leadership made frantic calls to mobilize attendees. For over 30 minutes Ruto was holed up at the deacon’s office. Students from the neighboring Kathonzweni Secondary were brought in and helped fill the empty seats.

Locals continued to stream in and at around noon the Deputy President finally commissioned the bus. The incident is said to have not gone well with the Deputy President who expected his ground teams to have mobilized and clearly communicated the timing to the locals.

Ruto who was accompanied by UDA Chair Johnson Muthama, Machakos MP Victor Munyaka, Garissa Town MP Aden Duale among other leaders later addressed a rally at Nzeveni Market which was well attended.
