Revealed: Why Machakos Trade Chief Officer Simeon Kitheka was Suspended

Machakos Chief Officer for Trade and External Relations Simeon Kitheka has been suspended from office.

In a letter dated 22nd May 2023 seen by Nauvoo News, Kitheka will not be allowed to transact any business on behalf of the County Government.

He was also asked to return the Government vehicle he has and key within 24 hours.

“I trust this finds you well. I refer to a memo dated 19th May 2023 by the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industry, Tourism, and Innovation. Vide this memo, you are suspended from office until further notice, “read the letter in part.

“Take note that during this period, you are not allowed to transact any business on behalf of your department or represent the Government of Machakos County in any capacity. Cause your official motor vehicle keys to be returned to the office of the County Secretary within 24 hours,” The letter went on,

However, according to our sources, Kitheka was accused of interfering with the Trans Nzoia County Chamber of Commerce elections. The move is said to have caused a tiff between the two counties.

Last week on Twitter, a section of netizens also accused him of ferrying people to vote in favor of a certain candidate in the elections. They called for his sacking under the hashtags “#CorruptSimeonKitheka” and “Machakos County officer.”

Kitheka previously served as the Finance Director Kenya National Chamber of Commerce. He also vied for the Senatorial seat in the Machakos by-elections in 2021 with a Grand Dream Development party ticket.
