Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has strongly criticized some county leaders, particularly members of the Machakos County Assembly, for allegedly undermining development projects.
Speaking at a funeral in Machakos, Mwangangi accused the MCAs of misleading the public about the cost of the Machakos Youth Service (MYS) project.
“It is very sad to see a leader lying to the people who elected them, you are lying to them when you are serious,” Mwangangi said, refuting claims that the project had an inflated budget of Ksh 800 million.
He clarified that even the Department of Education in the County does not have such a budget allocation.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the MYS project was a fulfillment of their campaign promise to empower the youth, who he claimed had been misused in previous administrations.
“The way that the governor is supporting youths in the county is by creating an empowerment program that is currently training 1,000 youths. After they complete their training, another 1,000—both boys and girls—will be enrolled, some of them were even drug addicts,” Mwangangi clarified.
Mwangangi revealed that the project’s actual cost is Ksh 161 million, covering infrastructure, free training, and meals for the trainees. Additionally, the youths will receive stipends and necessary equipment upon completing their training.
He urged leaders to be transparent and stop misleading the public for political gain, stating that such actions were derailing the county’s progress.
Last week, Muthwani MCA Dominic Maitha alleged the Machakos Youth Service had a budget allocation of 800 Million.
