Munyaka Speaks After His Vehicle was Sprayed with Bullets in Murang’a, Driver Injured

Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka has broken his silence after his vehicle was shot at three times and his driver injured during a violent confrontation involving police and suspected goons in Murang’a on Sunday.

The attack occurred shortly after Munyaka and other opposition leaders attended a church service at the AIPCA in the area.

Addressing the press after the incident, Munyaka termed the ordeal an assassination attempt, narrating how his Range Rover was damaged and his driver injured during the ambush.

“We attended a church service at AIPCA at the invitation of the area MP and the church. Together with Senator Wambua, we had a message from Kalonzo Musyoka, who is in the UK, asking us to attend the service,” said Munyaka.

“The church is downhill. As we were joining the main road after the service, we were ambushed by the police without our awareness. One officer had a very big stone and hit my Range Rover windscreen, making it hard for my driver to see. I thank God and my driver because he swerved and saved my life. At that moment, three bullets passed through my car,” he narrated.

Munyaka alleged that the attackers were disguised police officers, claiming they had pistols and wore masks. He further accused the government of using excessive force on opposition leaders while ironically charging young people with terror-related offenses.

“I was the target, and I believe it was an attempted assassination. I don’t know what I did to President Ruto because I helped him become president, but now that I’m with Kalonzo and Riggy G, I don’t know why he wants to assassinate me. They followed me and when they caught up with us, they attacked us with rungus and injured my driver, who was rushed to the hospital. These are not goons—goons don’t have pistols. Those were police in civilian clothes, and all of them were masked. I have never seen this kind of terror; I served under Moi and Kibaki,” he said.

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions, with opposition leaders accusing the government of intimidation and harassment.
