An eight-year-old girl drowned in a pit full of water in Mlolongo, Machakos County on Thursday afternoon.
The girl was a Grade 3 student attending a local private school in Mlolongo.
Anderson Mbae, the police commander of Athi River East subcounty, reported that the incident occurred at 2:00 p.m. in the Kathangaita area.
“It was reported that the girl was playing with other children near the flooded trench around Kathangaita when she slipped and drowned,” he stated.
Severe rainfall consequently formed stagnant water in the area. Locals discovered the girl’s corpse floating in the unprotected ditch, with no evident injuries.
Her body was taken to Shalom Community Hospital’s mortuary to undergo a postmortem examination.
