In a historic move for Mwala Sub-County, Justus Kasivu was recently appointed as the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health in Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration.
This marks a significant milestone, as Kasivu became the first individual from Mwala to hold a CECM position under the current government.
His elevation follows a period where he served as the acting Health Minister after the resignation of Dr. Daniel Yumbya. Kasivu’s journey is a testament to resilience and leadership.
Initially appointed as Chief Officer for Health, he played a pivotal role in implementing key health policies, improving service delivery, and advocating for equitable access to healthcare across Machakos County.
His strategic initiatives during his tenure earned him recognition and paved the way for his new role as a full minister.
The appointment resonates deeply with the people of Mwala, a sub-county that has often felt underrepresented in the county’s top leadership.
Some of the residents told Mauvoo News that they see Kasivu’s rise as a beacon of hope for more inclusive governance.
“For years, we have yearned for greater recognition and representation in county leadership. Kasivu’s appointment is a step in the right direction,” said Anthony Maweu, a local.
“We have only had Chief Officers it’s a good thing we now have a minister we can’t be more grateful,” said another.
Some of the Chief officers from the region include Bruce Isika(Industry) Mercy Mutua(devolution, Charles Mutinda(Office of the governor), and Bernice Kioko.
During his swearing in last Friday Governor Wavinya Ndeti praised Kasivu’s expertise and dedication.
“Justus Kasivu has demonstrated exemplary leadership and a deep understanding of our healthcare challenges. I am confident he will drive transformative change as the CEC for Health. It’s a good thing that he is joining at a time when we are planning on doing reforms in the ministry,” the governor stated.
As the new health minister, Kasivu faces the daunting task of addressing the pressing health issues in Machakos County.
According to him, plans include strengthening healthcare infrastructure, increasing access to essential medical services, and ensuring the sustainability of the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
“As the CEC for Health, my priority is to ensure the successful rollout of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). This program is a game-changer for healthcare access in Machakos County, particularly for marginalized communities,” Kasivu told Mauvoo News.
“We are committed to building a system that is transparent, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of our people. My focus will be on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, streamlining operations, and creating awareness so that every resident understands the benefits and actively participates in this transformative initiative,” added the health boss.
