Meet John Marete, the brains behind Mutongoi TV

In the ever-evolving landscape of Kenyan media vernacular stations are finding their space in the industry.

Mutongoi TV is a Kamba television with a target audience in 6 counties among them Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Mombasa, Kajiado, and Nairobi.

The 24-hour station is a brand under Weru Televisions Services owned by John Marete.

Even though many local TV stations are mushrooming every now and then, Mutongoi TV has managed to take center stage.

John Marete the brains behind Mutongoi TV hails from Meru county and graduated from Kenyatta University with a bachelor’s degree in Mass media and film production.

After school, Marete was employed by Royal Media Services and worked as a cameraman at Citizen TV before getting fired in 2016.

Getting laid off from work did not stop his dreams as in December of the same year he launched Weru TV which broadcasts in the Meru language.

In June 2017 he began Weru FM and in April 2021 began Mutongoi TV then Mutongoi FM.

Those who worked under him describe the father of two as a team worker, ambitious, and of great inspiration.
