Mavoko boda boda operators ask police to hunt for criminals tarnishing their business

Bodaboda operators in Mavoko sub-county have called upon the security agents to conduct investigations and smoke out criminals hiding in the sector.

While addressing the press led by their chairman Alex Mutuku, they claimed that some guys with motorbikes have been terrorizing residents in Athi River.

Mutuku said that the sector consists of people seeking to make a living for themselves and their families without engaging in illegal activities.

He noted that mostly those involved in the criminal activities come from areas like Ruai, Embakasi, Kayole, and other areas and were being used to taint the good name of the sector.

Mutuku confirmed that the Bodaboda sacco is ready to cooperate with the police in the investigation to ensure the criminals with bikes are behind bars.

“We do our job of transporting clients and their luggage, we are not criminals just people aiming to make a living. As bodaboda leaders we know the difference between a true bodaboda operator and a goon that is why we are requesting to help the police during the investigations,” he said.

“Our sacco members are purely bodaboda operators who have subscribed to certain stages and every stage has a chairman. Last week some of us were arrested and we would not like such a thing to happen again.”Mutuku added.

Athi River East sub-county police commander Anderson Mbae called upon the operators to operate within the law and promised to meet them to discuss how they would work together.
