A middle-aged man has been killed while another was injured after being shot by police while demonstrating in Emali town, Makueni county.
The two were among protesters demonstrating over the high cost of living in the town.
In frustration, the protesters who engaged the police in running battles set ablaze a police car and broke glass windows at Equity Bank in the town.
The countrywide demos are attracting many people as transport gets paralyzed in most counties.
At Wote and Makindu where Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is expected to lead demonstrations, police presence is high.
In Wote bus park no activity is ongoing as vehicles avoid the park fearing attack from demonstrators.
Inspector General of police Japheth Koome termed today’s demonstrations as illegal stating that the Azimio coalition did not present any official notification to the police about the demos.
