Machakos health boss moves to crack revenue pilferage syndicate, 3 arrested

Three workers suspected to be running a revenue pilferage syndicate at Machakos level 5 hospital have been arrested.

Confirming the incident, Machakos health CEC Daniel Yumbya said that the three a cashier, a patient attendant, and a nurse were busted on Thursday evening.

Yumbya said that the trio had been conniving to charge patients less money than required and then discharging them with fake receipts.

“In this case, it involved a patient who was supposed to pay Ksh.10,800 but was asked to give Ksh.5,000 and got discharged before being intercepted at the gate, what is shocking is that the system shows that the County Government only got ksh. 100 out of the pay whilst the receipt read Ksh.10,800,” said Yumbya.

“I want to thank the security who moved swiftly and brought this issue to light while the money was exchanging hands because it is something that has been going on for long, there are cartels in this hospital we are glad that today we were able to catch some,” the CEC added.

He noted that the hospitals have cartels but the three will serve as an example to those pocketing public money.

The three suspects have been fired and are currently locked at Machakos police station awaiting arraignment in court.

Yumbya addressed the press outside Machakos police station where he gave out the dismissal letters to the three suspects
