Machakos Governor Pledges Comprehensive Support for Flood Victims

The recent spate of floods across Machakos County has left a trail of destruction, with over 15 fatalities reported so far. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, acknowledging the severity of the situation, has vowed to cover the building costs for homes damaged by the floods.

She assured that her government’s commitment aims to ease the burden on families facing substantial losses due to property damage.

Speaking after distributing essential supplies including mattresses, blankets, and foodstuff to affected households in Mwala and Kathiani Wavinya noted that she will do all she can to ensure those affected get the help needed.

“We expect more rivers to break banks and that is why I’m urging people to be careful. As a government, we are trying our best to help those affected but as we help don’t stay in a risky area, prevention is better than cure,” Wavinya said.

Earlier Wavinya coordinated a successful rescue operation that saved eight individuals stranded on islands surrounded by rising floodwaters in Matungulu and Mwala sub-counties.

This operation, coupled with ongoing relief distributions, demonstrates the coordinated efforts of authorities and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of flood victims.

According to a report by Machakos county commissioner Josephine Ouko thousands have been affected by the floods, hundreds relocated to camps while tens left with injuries.
