Machakos DG Francis Mwangangi Message to Women on Politics

Machakos County Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has called on women to be at the forefront to contest for political seats.

Mwangangi spoke while attending a Mentorship Training for women leaders and Members of the County Assembly of Machakos by FIDA Kenya.

He noted that the training was a way of equipping women in the political space with the necessary knowledge and skills to drive the women’s agenda and build their capacity toward gender responsiveness and inclusivity.

“As the County Government of Machakos we are fully behind the FIDA Kenya initiative to enable our women to participate in decision-making progresses as well as facilitate implementation of laws and policies affecting women and safeguard their gains here in Machakod and Kenya,” said Mwangangi.

Mwangangi lauded FIDA Kenya for being at the forefront to fight for women as well as their commitment to creating a safe space for women.

He also noted that Machakos County tried in the last election to elect women leaders drawing from the top positions in the county that were taken by women resulting in the name “Machakos Girls”

The vocal leader further noted that many people at the ward level had not yet embraced women leaders given that Machakos County Assembly only has two elected Women MCAs.
