List of renown Lawyers from Ukambani

Ukambani region not only boasts of great leaders but also brilliant lawyers known far and wide. These lawyers have won numerous cases in the corridors of justice.

Daniel Maanzo

Currently, the Senator for Makueni county and has represented many leaders in court. He runs Maanzo and Co. advocates in Nairobi.

Maanzo was among the battery of lawyers that represented the Azimio coalition in their presidential election petition last year.

He studied law at the University of Nairobi and began his career as an Associate advocate and then legal advisor for some political parties including NARC and Wiper.

Kalonzo Musyoka

In July 2020, the Wiper Democratic Movement leader together with 42 other lawyers was conferred the rank of Senior Counsel.

Two weeks ago the firebrand politician threatened to go to court to defend former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i if he is arrested.

He has been a lawyer for over 35 years but he rarely practices. He is a founding partner and legal consultant at Musyoka and Murambi associates.

Florence Mwangangi

The Former Machakos county speaker is an advocate of the high court.

Mwangangi has practiced law for over 30 years and became the first woman to open a law firm Mwangangi and Co. Advocates in Machakos. She has another branch in Nairobi.

She is remembered for her brave act in 1993 when she and other lawyers marched to Nairobi to protest against a resident judge at Machakos High court.

Their pleas were heard by the then Chief Justice Kwasi Apaloo who brought another replacement.

Benard Mungata

He was the first speaker of the Machakos County Assembly and vied unsuccessfully for the senatorial seat in 2022.

Mung’ata is a renowned lawyer known for representing Koma housing cooperative society in their case to settle at KBC land.

Makau Mutua

Mutua is a Kenyan-American professor at the SUNY Buffalo School of Law.

He hit the headlines in 2016 after submitting an an-84-page CV to the Judicial Service Commission while applying for the position of Chief Justice.

Diana Kethi Kilonzo

She is a sister to Makueni governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior and apart from being a lawyer, she is an accountant and lecturer.

Kethi shot to fame in 2014 after the death of her father when the Wiper party wanted her to vie for the senatorial seat before her brother replaced her.

She studied law at the University of Nairobi where she graduated in 2000. A year later she enrolled for a postgraduate diploma at the Kenya School of Law and graduated in 2002.

She also represented Mutula in the Gubernatorial election by former Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba and ensured his win. Kethi is a partner at Kilonzo and company advocates.

Mutula Kilonzo Junior

You would say the Mutula family is that of lawyers from the father to the kids. Apart from law, politics runs in their blood.

Mutula Junior is currently Makueni County Governor and saying he is a good lawyer is an understatement.

Apart from doing law, Mutula is a Certified Public Secretary.

He graduated from the Kenya School of Law and is an Advocate of the High court. He began as an intern at his father’s law firm.

Kioko Kilukumi

He is among the veteran lawyers from the region and has represented leaders in various criminal and commercial cases.

Kilokumi was among President William Ruto’s lawyers during the presidential election petition last year.

Known also for defending ex-Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu in the Gubernatorial election petition in 2017.

He also defended former Migori governor Okoth Obado in the murder case involving University student Sharon Otieno.

Benjamin Musau

B.M Musau is a leading law firm based in Nairobi and with a branch in Machakos. The main area of practice is commercial and business law.

Musau hails from Mwala, Machakos county and at one time he unsuccessfully vied for the Mwala MP Seat.

Fabian Muli

Muli is a Kenyan politician and current Member of Parliament for the Kangundo constituency.

He graduated with a Bachelor of law from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Ann Kiusya

Currently the speaker of Machakos County Assembly. She graduated from Kenya School of Law in 1993 and has her firm in Machakos town – Anne Kiusya & Company Advocates and also in Kilifi – Mariakani.
