Kitui Speaker Decries exclusion from Madaraka Day Celebrations Planning

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kinengo Katisy has called on the Kenya Kwanza Government to involve the County Assembly in planning the Madaraka Day Celebrations that are set to be held in Kitui County on the 1st of June 2025.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station, Kinengo said that despite the County Assembly being a key unit in the county government they have never been involved in the planning noting that they will not attend if they will not be involved in the planning of the celebrations.

“I heard in the social media that it’s us that are hosting the Madaraka Day Celebrations and we have not been involved as the county assembly. I heard the national government met with the governor concerning the same but what they should know is that the county government is the executive and the county assembly is another part of the government,” said the speaker.

“We as the county assembly have not been involved and if they do not involve us in the planning of the celebrations we will not involve ourselves because even the area MCA where the celebrations are being held is the Deputy Speaker of the County Assembly and he has not been told,” Kinengo added.

The vocal speaker went ahead to say that they were not opposed to the national government holding the celebrations in Kitui but they should know that politics is local and they need to engage the local MCAs.

“We are asking the president to involve local leaders and mostly the MCAs because that is the local leader who meets up with the people at the ground level,” Kinengo concluded.
