Kitui leaders unite to push for compensation of locals affected by Kitui Kibwezi road construction

Kitui South MP Rachael Kaki Nyamai has disclosed that leaders from the county have joined hands to push for compensation of locals affected by Kitui-Kibwezi road construction. Kaki assured the locals that they will soon receive compensation.

Speaking at Evangelical Methodist Church Kak assured the locals that they will soon receive compensation noting that they are pushing for the government to set aside 500 million shillings for compensation.

She called upon the locals to trash claims by some of the politicians that the money had been pocketed by some legislators from the area.

“The Government released 288 million shillings and some people from Ikutha to Kasayani have been compensated. We agreed as Kitui lawmakers that we are all affected and together we have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to give us 500 million or at least 300 million for compensation,” MP Kaki said.

“Due to COVID, there is no money in the budget and some people have not been compensated. I will push as your leader although there is a lot of politics. Some people are alleging that we ‘ate’ the money,” she noted.

Early this year, residents of Nzambani in Kitui central held peaceful demonstrations protesting delayed compensation for land acquired during construction of the road 5 years ago.
