The Kenya Inter-county Sports Association (KYISA) Games commenced amidst great anticipation and excitement in Kilifi.
The week-long awaited event featuring teams comprising young athletes aged 18 to 23 years promises a fierce display of talent and sportsmanship among teams representing various counties.
As the pooling is released ahead of the games the Men’s Football tournament, a highlight of the games, is divided into four groups, each vying for a spot in the knockout stages.
In Group A, Kilifi,Nyeri,Siaya and Nakuru will lock it out.
For Group B Vihiga, Lamu, Busia, and Garissa will showcase their prowess.
In Group C Makueni, Wajir, Kajiado and Embu will battle it out.
Group D has Nairobi, Tana River, and Homabay.
The format entails each group playing round-robin matches, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.
Quarter-Final Matchups will be as follows A1 vs C2- C1 vs A2- B1 vs D2- D1 vs B2
The tournament rules include specific tie-breaking criteria for the group stages, with points, goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results, and even a coin toss or balloting in case of a deadlock.
During the knockout stages, matches will adhere to a 45-15-45 minute format, with no extra time allocated in the event of a draw. Teams will proceed directly to penalty shootouts to determine the winner.
All matches are scheduled to commence promptly at 8:30 AM local time, with cooling breaks provided to ensure the safety and well-being of the players.
