Governor Wavinya Launches 120M Bursary Scheme

Governor Wavinya Ndeti Friday officially launched the disbursement of bursaries worth 120 million to needy students at Kanyama grounds in Matungulu, Machakos. 28,000 students from the 40 wards are set to benefit marking the highest allocation in the County’s history.

“This marks a significant improvement from the 80 million disbursed by the County Government last year,” stated Governor Wavinya during the launch.

Wavinya emphasized the importance of investing in education to bridge the gap between the affluent and the disadvantaged. She reaffirmed her commitment to prioritizing education and vowed to resist any threats to its progress within Machakos County.

The governor highlighted the selection process carried out by the Ward Bursary Committee across the sub-counties to identify deserving beneficiaries.

She announced plans to transition to a digital cash transfer system that will enable funds to be directly wired to the beneficiaries’ accounts.

“In order to address these gaps, my Government is now keen on adopting the digital cash transfer system whereby monies will be wired directly to students’ accounts in the schools they are studying in,” she said.

Governor Wavinya urged students to uphold good conduct and focus on their academic pursuits. Stakeholders, including teachers and parents, praised the County Government’s intervention, noting its timely assistance during such challenging economic circumstances times.
