Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai is a Kenyan politician and an MP for Kitui East Constituency in Kitui County.
Born 45 years ago Mbai started as a police officer and at one time served as an aide to Foreign Affairs CS Dr. Alfred Mutua then Machakos Governor and former Kitui West MP the late Francis Nyenze.
While working with former Governor Mutua, Mbai quit his work as a police officer and was appointed as a chief officer in the department of Decentralized units, Urban centers, and Municipalities.
In a past interview, Mbai disclosed that he stepped into Parliament for the first time in 1998 while aged 19 as a guard for Nyenze.
Mbai would go with Nyenze to various meetings and that is how he learned public speaking.
His big break came in 2017 as he left Machakos to go vie for a parliamentary seat in the Kitui East constituency, Kitui county, and he won.
He vied on a Jubilee ticket which was loathed in Ukambani beating the incumbent Mutua Muluvi with over 9,000 votes.
Mbai observed that it was great for him to work with Nyenze in 2017 although the latter died in December of the same year.
In 2022 he vied on a United Democratic Alliance ticket and retained his seat despite much hostility.
It would be fair to say that Mbai is among the combative brand of leaders from Kitui county who would do anything for the sake of the people they represent.
Late last year he was very much involved in ending the conflict between locals of Kitui and camel herders. Mbai has also been vocal against the mining of coal in Kitui county.
He believes he will climb the political ladder and achieve more in politics as he derives his inspiration from President William Ruto.
The MP was also in 2022 tasked by a section of leaders allied with president Ruto to be their spokesman and the link between the National government and Kitui County governments.
