Emotions high as Kangundo Doctor intern who committed suicide buried in Mwala

Kangundo Doctor intern Fredrick Wambua who allegedly committed suicide was laid to rest Friday in his home village in Ketululi, Muthetheni in an emotional burial.

The 35-year-old was a doctor intern at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital before he was found dead in his house.

During his burial family members, neighbors, as well as co-workers, described the doctor as a person who was jovial and full of life. They asked their children to emulate him.

“He has been a dear brother to us, even as we grieve and mourn him, he lived a lovely and loving life, we admired him and told our children to study so they can be like “fathe” so we have lost a brilliant young man and we pray that you pray for us as a family,” said one of the family members.

Fredrick Wambua served as a doctor intern at Kangundo level 4 and last week his body was found hanging in the house days after going missing.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) mourned the deceased, saying his death represents what so many doctors in the country are going through due to unemployment.

“KMPDU is deeply saddened by the untimely and unfortunate demise of our young colleague, Dr. Muoki Fred Wambua who died by suicide on 27/1/2023 in Kagundo, Machakos County after struggling for months to secure an employment opportunity,” KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah said Tuesday.

Confirming the incident then, Kangundo Deputy Police Commander Michael Osinga said local administration police were notified about the death of a middle-aged man, whose body was found hanging in his house on an electric cable in what police say could be a suicide-related death.

Police have since launched investigations on the matter.
