The political rift between Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama deepened on Monday during a United Opposition rally held in Masii and attended by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Senator Kavindu launched a scathing attack on Governor Wavinya, accusing her administration of neglecting the county’s health sector, which she described as being in crisis.
Tensions escalated when Senator Kavindu took to the microphone to address residents, passionately criticising the governor for allegedly disregarding the Senate’s oversight role. She vowed to continue executing her mandate without fear or favour.
“Leave the Governor aside — I must perform my oversight role. I will carry out oversight whether you like it or not. Do you want me to remain silent when there are no medicines in our county hospitals?”Kavindu posed.

“Or should I just ignore the problems affecting our health facilities? Well, that’s up to you,” Senator Kavindu declared amid cheers and jeers from the crowd.
The confrontation marked yet another flare-up between the two leaders, following a similar exchange last month when the senator publicly faulted the county administration over what she termed as poor management of the healthcare system.
However, some residents appeared divided over Kavindu’s remarks, with a section questioning the effectiveness of her oversight, while others backed her for speaking out.
Governor Wavinya has, on several occasions, defended her administration’s performance, maintaining that her government is working tirelessly to upgrade health facilities and improve service delivery across Machakos County.
