DG Mwangangi reveals Machakos County plan on stalled Stadiums

Machakos County Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has revealed that the stalled stadiums in the County will be completed.

Speaking during the closing of the Benjamin Ayimba Rugby Tournament that was held over the weekend Mwangangi said that the stadiums would help a lot in ensuring that talents are nurtured.

He noted that even Kenyatta Stadium which was the venue for the tournament would be renovated to a standard that it can host International games.

“As a County Government, we are going to complete all the stalled stadiums in the County and ensure that a Stadium like Kenyatta stadium is renovated in a manner to be able to host even International events,” said Mwangangi.

His words were echoed by CEC for Sports and Youth Machakos County Onesmus Muasya who said that the Department had a drafted budget to finish up the Stadiums.

He went on to reveal that the Benjamin Ayimba Tournament was a curtain raiser for the major event that would be held in July in the county.

“We are grateful for the success of this event, I want to thank all those that have participated in ensuring the event was a success. This was a curtain raiser for the major event that will be held in July at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos County,” said Muasya.

The stalled Stadiums in the county include; Ikombe Stadium in Yatta Sub-county, Kinyui Stadium in Matungulu Sub-county, Athi river stadium in Mavoko Sub-county, and Masii stadium in Mwala.

Contractors of the stadia have since left the site due to non-payment while some like Masii stadium have been vandalized. The stadiums that were constructed by the Chap Chap regime gobbled up millions before stalling.
