Desperate Cry as Enziu River Bridge Remains uncomplete Amid Heavy Rainfall

Residents of Kitui County are raising their voices against the prolonged delay in completing the Enziu River bridge which has cost many lives.

Concerned locals highlighted the imminent danger posed by the river during the rainy season and called on leaders to take immediate action.

Expressing their frustrations, residents emphasized that the construction has been lingering for years, posing a continuous threat to the community. They urged Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza, responsible for East African Community ASAL and regional development, to spearhead efforts alongside other leaders to pressure the government for the bridge’s swift completion.

“We cannot ignore the fact that this river claimed numerous lives in the past. With the bridge unfinished, locals are risking their lives crossing the dangerous waters. Our leaders must act before more tragedies occur,” remarked a resident.

Felisters Nzisa echoed these sentiments, criticizing leaders for using the bridge as a political tool but neglecting it once in office. She emphasized the urgency of completing the project, stating that it is crucial for the safety of the community and will influence voting decisions in upcoming elections.

In addition to the bridge issue, residents also highlighted the poor state of roads in the region, calling for immediate improvements as some roads have become impassable. Their plea is a stark reminder of the pressing need for infrastructure development to ensure the safety and well-being of the local population.
