Ututi wa Kyuma Blasts Ukambani Journalists, Bloggers After Ruto Interview in Kitui

Radio presenter and TV host Bosco Ndetei Mutuku, popularly known as Ututi wa Kyuma, has strongly condemned the Ukambani journalists that interviewed President William Ruto at the Kitui State Lounge on Thursday night, accusing them of failing to uphold professional integrity and represent the concerns of the region during the high-profile engagement.

Speaking live during his evening drive-time show Silisili, which airs on Kwitu FM, the energetic on-air media personality expressed his disappointment with how the interview was conducted. He argued that the journalists failed to press the President on issues that matter most to local residents and the nation at large.

The Presenter said that the President had come to Kitui to address critical issues affecting the Kamba community, including water, roads, dams, affordable housing, youth empowerment, and the functionality of the Social Health Authority.

He criticized the media for choosing just anyone to interview the President, questioning whether they were genuinely there to represent the Kamba community by raising pressing issues such as the community’s stake in government, or were merely there to share a laugh with the President.

“The President came to Kitui to address critical issues affecting the Kamba community—such as water, roads, dams, affordable housing, youth empowerment, and the functionality of the Social Health Authority. Yet, you just picked anyone to interview him. Were they there to genuinely engage with the President on behalf of the Kamba community, or were they simply there to laugh along with him?” Ututi asked.

He added that they should have asked sensitive questions, giving the example that during his recent development tours in other regions as well as in Ukambani, the President had reportedly said that those he would be competing with in the 2027 general elections had no vision and were brainless.

He said that since Kalonzo Musyoka was one of the President’s competitors in the presidential race, journalists should have asked whether the President meant that Kalonzo lacked vision or a plan for the country.

“You should have asked sensitive and relevant questions. For instance: ‘Mr. President, during your recent development tours in other regions as well as here in Ukambani, you are on record saying that those you will be competing with in the 2027 general elections have no vision and are brainless. Our own Kalonzo Musyoka is one of your competitors for the presidency in 2027. Do you mean to imply that he lacks vision or a plan for this country?” Ututi added.

He called on journalists to approach their work with seriousness, saying that the media could have selected seasoned media personalities from top regional outlets such as Kwitu FM, Musyi FM, Mbaitu FM, Ene FM, among others, to ensure that the engagement was conducted professionally.

“Instead, you could have chosen seasoned journalists from top regional media outlets—such as Mulisi wa Mukuyu of Kwitu FM, Sir Mwengemwenge of Musyi FM, Sammy Mulinge of Mbaitu FM, and Kisamba of Ene FM, among others. This would have ensured that the media engagement was taken seriously,” Ututi said.

His remarks ignited a lively debate on social media, with many residents backing his stance. Some argued that the interview lacked depth and urgency, while others defended the Media, saying the tone and style were appropriate for a state interview.
