Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has blamed the Machakos County Government’s Health Department for the death of his first cousin Jacinta Mutile citing poor emergency response.
Speaking in Mumbuni North Ward, Dr. Mutua recounted how his cousin fell ill in Masii and was taken to Masii Hospital after developing a severe headache.
“When I was Governor, we had ambulances. Recently, I lost my cousin because she was not treated on time,” Mutua said.
“The doctors said they needed an ambulance to transfer her, but there was none available. I was shocked — I left ambulances. I bought 100 of them, and they were operational.” He went on.

He added that by the time a vehicle was found to transfer her to Machakos Level 5 Hospital, she had suffered a massive stroke and later died.
“I was so angry because we cannot play with the lives of our people. Leaders should focus on development,” he said.
Dr. Mutua further urged residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, saying it was important given what he described as the failure of Machakos County’s healthcare system.
