Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has officially rebranded the Wiper Democratic Movement to the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), signaling a new chapter for the party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The rebranding was formalized following the issuance of a new certificate by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), led by Acting Registrar Sophia Sitati.
Speaking during the unveiling, Kalonzo expressed gratitude to the ORPP and said the name change marks a strategic shift for the party.
“We’re expanding this movement to become truly National. We welcome new members who are ready to strengthen and broaden the political space and help build a patriotic, countrywide movement,” he said.
Kalonzo noted that the decision was influenced by recent political shifts in the country, particularly the Gen Z-led protests against oppressive taxation and governance in 2023 and 2024.
“We can’t keep claiming to be democratic while doing nothing to safeguard democracy. What we witnessed during the Gen Z protests revealed a new spirit in the country. As a movement, we must be responsive to that energy — and take a more aggressive stance to safeguard our nationhood,” he stated.

While clarifying that Gen Zs are not being co-opted into the party, Kalonzo said the WPF seeks to reflect their patriotic zeal and push for accountability.
Looking ahead to 2027, Kalonzo announced that the WPF will field candidates across all electoral seats, from MCA to presidency, and hinted at possible coalition announcements soon.
“Our vision is clear — candidates in every part of the republic. Senators, governors, and MPs across the 290 constituencies. This is the party of the future, the party of the youth, the party of patriotic energy,” he added.
Kalonzo was flanked by key party officials, including Secretary General Senator Shakila Abdalla, Deputy Secretary General and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika Mboni, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, and youth leaders Nixon Virundu and Mercy Mawia, among other party MCAs and members.
