Wavinya Ndeti Heartbroken by Makau’s Remarks About Marrying Her

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has expressed deep disappointment and emotional hurt over recent remarks by Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, who publicly stated that he could marry her as they are not cousins.

Speaking after a church service at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Masinga, Governor Wavinya described Makau’s comments as “shameful” and said she had chosen to leave the matter to God.

“Some things I’m being told are hurting my heart,” she said. “If my brother says they can marry me, Father God is with me. There are some shameful things, but I just leave them to God because God is everything. You will never hear me insult someone or respond to them.”

Her remarks follow comments made by MP Makau during the burial of former councillor Justus Gideon Nthiwa in Masinga, an event also attended by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi.

During his speech at the burial, Makau stated:

“Wavinya is not my cousin; I can even marry her. We are just from the same Aombe clan.”

The MP’s statement has since sparked public debate, with some interpreting it as inappropriate and disrespectful.

Governor Wavinya’s emotional response at the church reflects both personal hurt and a call for dignity and respect in public discourse.
