Daniel Ndwiki’s journey from a savvy businessman to a Mlolongo Member of County Assembly (MCA) is a testament to his dedication and hard work.
Mauvoo News had a tete-a-tete with the MCA and got to know his story that is marked by a commitment to solving problems and improving lives.
Ndwiki narrated that he first gained prominence in the early 2000s with his booth phone (simu ya jamii) business in Mlolongo.
As construction companies increased in the area, Ndwiki seized the opportunity to establish a phone booth service that became an essential communication hub. This venture laid the foundation for his subsequent success in the mobile money sector, particularly with M-Pesa.
A native of Mbiuni in Mwala Sub-county, Ndwiki now resides in the densely populated Mlolongo, Mavoko Sub-county. His move into politics in 2022 he says was driven by a deep-seated desire to ensure that essential services were readily available to the residents.
“My predecessors failed to listen to the locals and serve them based on their needs this failing in their leadership,” Ndwiki said.
On his achievement In his two years as MCA, Ndwiki points out the ongoing tarmacking of the Police-Gossip Road, a previously impassable route, especially during the rainy season. The road’s improvement has been a long-awaited relief for the locals.
Additionally, Ndwiki adds that he has worked with the County government in rehabilitation of several boreholes, including those at the Police Station, Syokimau Chief’s Camp, and the Level Three Hospital and 3 new boreholes.
The Syokimau Level Three Hospital, now 95 percent complete, is a project close to his heart he notes. The MCA disclosed that he is pushing for the establishment of a Level Four Hospital in the ward to enhance healthcare access further.
“These are the things that make sleep in peace knowing the burning issues pertaining my ward have been addressed,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Ndwiki is confident that his track record will secure him a second term.
Among the legacy he hopes to leave behind is the Mlolongo Social Hall and the tarmacked Police-Gossip Road. However, he acknowledges the challenges that come with limited resources, particularly in distributing bursaries and other forms of assistance to the large population in his ward.
Ndwiki hopes for a future where government resources are allocated based on the unique needs and population of each ward.
