2 people escaped unscathed after their vehicle was carried away by the raging waters of Kalawa River in Mbooni, Makueni County.
According to eyewitnesses, the two were trying to cross the river that had swelled to the brim before tragedy struck.
Their vehicle, make Probox was swept away downstream while their screams rented the air.
Luckily some of the rocks and pipes in the river were able to hold the vehicle from going far thus allowing locals who had gathered to dive in and rescue them.
“In the rivers, there are huge rocks and also a big pipe taking water from the river which prevented the vehicle from being swept further. Locals immediately got into the water and took the two people out of the vehicle to a safe place,” said the eyewitness.
In the same County, a lorry was swept away at River Kyamela along the Emali-Ukia road.
The occupants of the lorry were all rescued as others managed to jump out. The lorry driver is said to have been tempted to cross after seeing small cars cross successfully.
Heavy rains have continued to pound the county continuously and many rivers are full.
