Makueni: Agriculture Training Empowers 60 Youths

60 youths sponsored by the county government of Makueni and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have completed their training in diverse agricultural courses. The participants, who underwent training in areas such as horticulture, apiculture, poultry farming, and fish farming, are now poised to apply their acquired skills in practical settings.

The ambitious program, which was launched three years ago, aimed to empower the youth by providing them with essential knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of agriculture. The weekend marked the fruition of their efforts as they graduated with a Grade Three Certificate in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Joyce Mutua, the Agriculture CECM Makueni County, expressed her satisfaction with the participants’ achievements. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, she stated, “We promised them a certificate course, Level 3 TVET. They began their journey with formal education, and now they are equipped to be attached to farmers and contribute meaningfully to the agricultural sector.”

The training, conducted at ATC Kwa Kathoka, ensured that the participants received a comprehensive education in agricultural practices, covering theoretical aspects as well as practical, hands-on experiences. This holistic approach is designed to prepare the youth for the challenges and opportunities in the real-world agricultural landscape.

As the graduates embark on the next phase of their journey, they will be attached to local farmers, putting their newfound knowledge into practice and contributing to the growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector in Makueni County.

The successful completion of this program not only highlights the commitment of the county government and NGOs to youth empowerment but also underscores the importance of investing in the agricultural sector for sustainable development. The 60 graduates now stand as ambassadors of change, ready to make a positive impact on the agricultural landscape of Makueni and beyond.
