Police in Nunguni Police Post, Makueni County arrested three court officers, Court Assistant Nelson Munyaka, Accountant David Mwaura, and Court Driver William Musembi.
According to police reports, the suspects collaborated in issuing counterfeit receipts for the payment of court fines and forfeitures, facilitating the release of accused persons from both courtrooms and police stations.
Forged receipts totaling Kshs 161,000/= were verified and established to have been issued between Feb 14, 2024, and Feb 16, 2024, in respect to some traffic cases where accused persons had pleaded guilty and were fined. The suspects are assisting the Police with the investigation.
The exposure comes amid increased cases of corruption allegations within the Judiciary, highlighting the importance of vigilant oversight and accountability measures within the legal system.
