Residents of Kyome/Thaana ward in Mwingi West constituency today went to different polling stations to vote for their MCA.
Despite the low turnout, the race was seen as a supremacy battle between Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and United Democratic Alliance bigwigs from Kitui.
Alphonse Mukwayu Musyimi was the Wiper Candidate in the race while Macirice Gideon Munyithya popularly known as Ngoso was the flagbearer of the UDA Party. However, the provisional results showed that the Wiper candidate was leading by far followed by Joyce Mwende David an independent candidate.
The provisional results seen by Mauvoo News showed that Mukwayu Musyimi of Wiper was leading with 2,234 votes in 37 out of 41 polling stations followed by Mwende David (Independent) with 1,258 votes, Mwangangi Katuta was third with 655 votes, UDA’s Gideon Munyithya followed with 636 votes, Mutambu Jonathan Kimanzi 561, Musili Wickliffe Mwamuli 466, Muli David Muimi 113, Paul Kyalo Ngei 81, Nguu Charles Kathingi 14, Sebastian 6 and Muvingo 3 votes.
Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna took the early opportunity to congratulate the Wiper candidate for winning the election stating that his parallel tallying showed that he won.
“MCA – elect Kyome Thaana – Alphonse Mukwaiyu. As per my parallel tallying center. Congratulations are in order. Thank you Kyome Thaana for not following relief food and bribes but voting wisely,” MP Nguna posted in one of the local forums.
Kyome/Thaana ward election was postponed after the death of aspirant Stanley Ngui Muthengi popularly known as Muthengi Junior of Tujibebe Party hours after being cleared by IEBC.
In August, locals held demos asking IEBC to hold the elections for the MCA.
We are following up and we will update on the final results released by IEBC.
