Kalonzo turned down my job offer – Ruto

President Willam Ruto has revealed that he reached out to Kalonzo Musyoka after he won the August presidential election, just like he had promised during campaigns.

Ruto who spoke at a thanksgiving service at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday said that he had a discussion with the Wiper party leader and asked him whether he would join the Kenya Kwanza government.

He hints that he offered Kalonzo some positions such as that of the Speaker of the National Assembly and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary but Kalonzo refused and chose to stick in Azimio La Umoja Coalition.

“I want to be sincere that I looked for Kalonzo after I won the elections as I had promised you. I sat down with him and asked him to join me in forming the Government. But he opted to remain in Azimio”, Ruto said.

However, Ruto said that although Kalonzo turned him down, he will still work with the Kamba community.

“But I decided that even if he refuses to work with me, I must look for other Ukambani leaders to work with. I also cannot withstand losing the support and relationship that have built with the Kamba community. That is why today we have three Cabinet Secretaries, 3 principal secretaries from Ukambani, and others who am looking forward to join hands with”, he added.

Ruto also urged the Azimio La Umoja leaders not to resume the anti-government protests, adding that they are not benefiting the citizens in any way.

“As leaders, it is incumbent upon us even as we pursue the things that matter to us as leaders, we cannot put in jeopardy the issues that matter to the people”, he added.
