Following the arrest of 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the prime suspect who confessed to being behind the Kware killings in Soweto, Mohamed Amin, the Director the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has released a statement regarding allegations and misinformation surfacing on social media discrediting the investigation.
This follows after an alarming post by Francis Gaitho of username FGaitho237 on X alleging that there was no public record of the 33-year-old suspect and identified 24-year-old Jairus Morwabe Onkund Computer Science graduate from Meru University of Science and Technology, as the culprit a post that is said to have led to a shaken Jairus out of fear to present himself to the DCI offices.
In the statement, DCI declined Jairu’s involvement in the case and said he was not wanted by the authorities.
“Jairus has since been given the necessary assistance from the side of the police, and this press briefing provides an opportunity to clarify to the members of the public that the 24-year-old is not a criminal, and neither is he wanted by the DCI for any reason whatsoever.” Stated the statement.
The DCI further emphasized on the importance of verifying information before sharing it publicly and assured the public of the thoroughness and credibility of their investigations.
