    Two killed, One Injured by Hippo in River Athi

    Two people have died while another is receiving treatment at Machakos Level 5 hospital after being attacked by a hippopotamus at River Athi in Katangi, Yatta sub-county.

    Confirming the incident, Katangi Location Chief Daniel Matheka Ngandi said that the two were attacked while fetching water.

    The chief said that the one who was being treated at Machakos level 5 hospital had sustained serious injuries. He asked residents to be on the lookout as the River has a lot of hippos.

    “A 40-year-old man has been attacked by a hippopotamus at River Athi and he has sustained serious injuries. He has been rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital for treatment,” said the chief.

    “I urge people to be on the lookout because the River has hippos. We have lost two people after the attack by the hippo. My plea is to KWS to act swiftly,” he added.

    Wamunyu Ward MCA Justus Mutuku send a warning to Kenya Wildlife Service to act swiftly and remove the hippos from the river so as to ensure resident lives are taken care of.

    “My ward borders Katangi ward and we use River Athi and hippos have been a menace to us. I want to ask KWS to act swiftly and remove those animals or else when we get we shall kill it,” he said.

    Kitui County Health CEC gives Cholera outbreak status

    Kitui Health CEC Dr. Winnie Kitetu has given a status of the Cholera update in the county.

    Mwingi North Constituency is leading in cases of cholera outbreak in Kitui county followed by Mwingi Central and Kitui Rural.

    Dr. Winnie Kitetu said that 11 people from Mwingi North have Cholera and two of them have succumbed to the disease.

    “Those who have been affected are 11 in Mwingi North. 2 of them are being treated at Kyuso Hospital, 2 have been discharged and 3 men have lost their lives,” Dr. Kitetu said.

    “The other place that has been affected is Mwingi Central. 1 person is in Kitui Rural. We had 6 men and 2 ladies whose samples were taken for testing, 7 were found to have cholera and one has passed on,” she added.

    Dr. Winnie also revealed that most of the cases are being handled in different hospitals in the county noting that so far they have lost 4 people to the disease.

    “So far we have lost 4 people to the disease and so far we have 20 people that have been affected after the outbreak of cholera in Kitui County,” Dr. Kitetu revealed.

    She further called on residents to observe hygiene so as to ensure that they do not get affected by cholera noting that the County Government is doing all that it can to salvage the situation.

    National Assembly Lady Spouses Association(NASLA-K) on Thursday (12th Jan) commissioned a borehole in Kikaso Kyeu in Wamunyu Ward of Mwala Subcounty, Machakos County.

    The lady spouses of MPs had accompanied Faith Musyoka wife to Mwala MP Eng. Vincent Musyoka alias Kawaya to commission the borehole.

    Addressing the media after commissioning the Kikaso Kyeu community borehole, Faith said that they had partnered with an Association known as Proudly Kenyan and it was a good way of giving back to society.

    “We have partnered with Proudly Kenyan and other organizations to ensure that we do projects in our areas. To me, water in the Mwala sub-county has been something close to my heart and through this borehole, we will plant trees and participate in climate change,” Faith Musyoka said.

    Her words were echoed by Murang’a County First Lady Mary Wambui Kang’ata who said that this was not the only project done by the Association of the Lady Spouses and that more were going to be done.

    “We are grateful for this commission and we are rest assured that this is not the only project but more will come. I know that Proudly Kenyan are having a project in Murang’a. We are grateful to our First Lady Rachel Ruto in her campaign for climate change,”Wambui Kang’ata said.

    The borehole will help six villages namely Kithiani, Kinguutheni, Kikaso Kyeu, Miondoni, Mitiluni, and Kyengai.

    3 Children Under 10 Years Burnt To Death In Kangundo Over Family Feud

    Police in Kangundo Subcounty have launched investigations over the death of three children aged 8,6 and 4 years who were burnt to death in their father’s house.

    Confirming the incident Kangundo Subcounty Police Commander Zachary Bitok said that officers from Kakuyuni Police Station received information of an attack in a homestead in Uthini. They rushed to the scene and upon arrival, they found that the house was on fire.

    Residents informed the police that the house was earlier stoned by unknown people who later burnt it. Some of the occupants managed to escape leaving the 3 kids sleeping in one room.

    “Officers from Kakuyuni received a report of invaders who were attacking a house in Uthini belonging to one Richard Musyoki. By the time they arrived, they found invaders had set the house on fire and the occupants disappeared into the bushes. 3 children who were sleeping in the house got burnt beyond recognition,” said the police commander.

    “We have launched investigations after finding out that there was a land dispute which has been going on for a while now. There is a group that was before the D.O. yesterday and they were referred to take the matter to the court only for this incident to happen last night,” he added.

    According to neighbors, the family was in a land dispute after the father married two wives and the son of the first wife had given notice to the second wife to vacate from the compound in their last meeting on Saturday last week before this happened.

    Bodies of the deceased were taken to Kangundo Level 4 Mortuary for preservation as police take on the matter.

    Furious Kasolo hits out at Kithembeo Presenter Kavwele Junior

    Kitole hitmaker Stephen Kasolo has come out guns blazing at popular Radio Presenter and Kithembeo Show host Samuel Mutuku alias Kavwele Junior.

    In a video that has been doing rounds on social media, Kasolo accused Kavwele of using his show “Kithembeo” which airs on Musyi Fm to bring down Kamba Gospel artists by claiming they sacrifice people.

    “Your work when you got to Radio was to fight other Gospel Artists the grace upon the Artists has finished you because of the tears they have shed. No one listens to you now because you are nothing,” Kasolo in the viral clip says.

    Kasolo told off Kavwele on the way he promotes his wife’s songs, she would be a celebrity but “she is not known by anyone”.

    “Kavwele go look for money like all other men and stop saying that we sacrifice people for our wealth. Look for money and make your wife a big artist. You keep on playing her songs and she has amounted to nothing,” Kasolo claimed.

    “Why has she not become a celebrity? you keep on telling people to subscribe to her channel, you shall suffer until you remember me even my daughter has more subscribers than you, know you are not famous anymore,” he added.

    The controversial Gospel Artist hit Kavwele below the belt calling him a “fake Bishop” for his deeds that did not depict those of a holy man saying that he gave himself a Bishop name that does not suit him.

    “You are here calling yourself a bishop and you are the biggest ****** I know, you have more than seven wives may the Lord have mercy on you, Kavwele,” the Kitole hitmaker added.

    Boda Boda thief Lynched In Mlolongo by irate residents

    Irate residents beat and lynched a middle-aged man after he was found stealing a Boda Boda in Cabro Phase 3 in Mlolongo, Athi River.

    According to Mlolongo Community Policing Chairman Peter Mwalimu, the deceased was found trying to remove a tracking device from a stolen motorbike with another suspect who managed to escape the mob.

    He further revealed that the residents who spotted the thieves had been fed up with the rise in crime in the area and when they found the culprits they beat them but the latter managed to escape.

    “Today in the morning, we got reports that a man had been beaten and lynched to death by irate residents after being found stealing a motorbike in Cabro Phase 3. They were two but one escaped,” Mwalimu said.

    The body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital Mortuary in Athi River as police look for the one who escaped.

    As we usher in the new year, parents of 2022 KCPE candidates are busy looking for schools to take their children to as they await the National placement of students by the ministry.

    Here is a list of the National Schools in the Lower Eastern counties of Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos.

    Machakos County has two national schools namely Kathiani Girls and Machakos School.

    Machakos School is located in Machakos Town Constituency along Machakos-Kyumvi road. The principal is Khai Indimuli who is the Chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association.

    Kathiani Girls High School is located in Kathiani Constituency a few kilometers from Kathiani market. The school principal is Madam Damaris Munyao.

    In Makueni County only one school has been accorded National status in the whole county while the majority of the performing schools are extra-county schools.

    Makueni Boys High School is the only national school in Makueni County. It is located along Kathonzweni-Wote-Makindu road 10 minutes walk from Makueni Governor’s offices. It is headed by Raphael Diwani the school principal.

    Kitui county has 2 National Schools; Muthale Girls and Kitui School.

    In Kitui County, Muthale Girls High School is located along Kitui-Mwingi road in Mutonguni bordering Muthale Mission Hospital. Headed by Hellen Awour as the school principal.

    Kitui School is the only boys’ national school in Kitui County. Located about 2 kilometers from Kitui Town along Kitui-Mbusyani road. Bernard Mutua is the school principal.

    All Makueni Wards to have 24-hour health facilities – Governor Mutula Jnr

    Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has revealed that all Wards will have a health facility that will be operational 24 hours.

    Speaking during the burial of his cousin Jeremiah Muthembwa at Utangwa in Makueni County, Mutula said that it is important for every person to access medical care at any time. This he noted will be possible when every ward will have a 24-hour facility.

    “We have agreed that every ward will have a hospital that will be running 24 hours, I went to Kilala and found that maternity is closed at 5 pm, I asked myself do the pregnant mothers give birth on a schedule, this needs to change,” said Mutula Junior.

    He further revealed that there will be a lot of changes in the Health department noting that no hospital will be closed during the night or at the end of the week rather they will be running all through the week day and night.

    Mutula kilonzo Junior was accompanied by Makueni Senator Daniel Maanzo, Makueni Women Representative Rose Museo, Mbooni Constituency MP Erastus Kivasu among other leaders.
