Wavinya calls for timely disbursement of funds to Counties

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has appealed to the National Treasury for the timely release of funds to counties.

Giving reasons for the importance of timely disbursement, Wavinya stressed that ensuring counties receive their allocations on time is key for effective service delivery.

Expressing concern over the recurring challenges faced by counties in service delivery due to delays in fund transfers, she disclosed that her administration had only received disbursements upto November 2023.

Wavinya underscored her government’s commitment to exceeding expectations in implementing development projects outlined during public participation exercises.

“As the governor of Machakos in the financial year 2022/2023 I was assigned 420 projects when we did public participation. From the 420 projects I’ve delivered 568, that is 135 percent. In the year 2023/2024 I was assigned 492 projects and I know I will deliver this also and more. As for this you’ve assigned me today am pushing them to the next financial year.” Wavinya stated.

She also emphasized the importance of sticking to the budget to avoid accumulating pending bills, which could affect service delivery.

Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi backed Wavinya’s sentiments, calling on the National Government to fulfill its promise of increasing the revenue allocation share to counties to at least 40 percent as pledged.

“My word to the National Government is to keep its promise, if it was proposed to disburse 35 percent or 40 percent please keep your promise as that will help more, ” said Mwangangi.

Wavinya spoke during public participation forums on the County Fiscal Strategy Paper 2024 and Budget Estimates 2024/2025 held in Ekalakala, Masinga, and Ikombe in Yatta.
